Brandy Chandler's story - luckily she didn't wait any longer.
I am 38 years old and I have worked in the medical field for 14 years and so when I started experiencing some strange symptoms I should have thought to go to the doctor ASAP! But.... one of them was the fact that I had lost 20lbs in about a month and I kept saying, "Hey if it ain't killing me I don't want them to fix it!"
Well.... after the urging of the doctors I work with to just go get checked out I finally relented. Turns out I had thyroid cancer and had NO IDEA! They said if I would have waited just 2 more months my chances would have gone down to 40-60%!
So even though I work in the medical field I needed that reminder & urging from others to get checked out. I am now spreading the word to take charge of your health and have started a cancer support group.'
Thyroid cancer is the second most common cancer in women aged 15 to 39. Melanoma leads the list of the 10 most common cancers in 15 to 40-year-old men and women.
This year, nearly 70,000 Americans aged 15-40 will be diagnosed with cancer - 1 every 8 minutes on average. Although most cancers in young adults are not preventable, they can be detected earlier if teens and young adults make a commitment to seeing their doctor regularly for physical exams, become aware of any negative change in their body and take immediate action. Learn from Brandy and be aware of common symptoms of cancer.
